Actual Stories of AIG Travel Claims

Case # 1

An insured fell while travelling in the United Kingdom and sustained a hip injury. Due to the severity of the injury, the insured underwent a surgery and was discharged two weeks after.

Escorted by an AIG medical nurse, the insured safely returned home to Malaysia. The total cost of medical treatment and repatriation amounted to approximately RM80,000 was fully covered under the insured’s travel policy with us.

Case # 2

An insured was golfing in Laos and was accidentally knocked over by a buggy. The insured sustained multiple rib fractures with chest contusion and abrasion wounds. Due to the severity of the injuries, the insured was admitted to a hospital in Thailand and was monitored conservatively.

Upon discharge, the insured was repatriated home to Malaysia escorted by an AIG nurse and with special flight arrangements, which included additional oxygen supplies on flight, as well as ground ambulance and wheelchair arrangements. The insured was directly admitted to a medical facility upon touchdown for further medical care.

The medical and repatriation expenses of almost RM40,000 were fully covered under the insured’s travel policy with us.

Case # 3

An insured passed away while on holiday in Tibet after suffering acute mountain sickness followed by some medical complications.

Respecting the religious needs and family request, the late insured’s remains were repatriated to China within a week for cremation despite tedious transportation arrangements. The ashes were safely returned to the late insured’s family a day after the cremation.

Under the late insured’s travel policy with us, the cost of repatriation of almost RM80,000 was fully covered.

Case # 4

An insured, while in China, fell in his hotel room as a result of a weak body after experiencing several vomiting bouts. Upon admission to a local hospital, the insured was diagnosed with a broken head scalp and upper gastrointestinal hemorrhage. The insured’s past medical history was reviewed and given that the medical history was beyond the ‘look back’ period, the insured was entitled to the benefit under the travel policy with us. The insured was later transferred to a second hospital and was treated for a week.

Upon certified fit to fly, the insured was repatriated to Malaysia with special flight arrangements and escorted by an AIG physician with direct admission to a medical facility upon touchdown. Medical and repatriation expenses, which amounted to approximately RM52,000, were fully covered.

Case # 5

An insured suffered an acute appendicitis while on leisure travel in China and underwent emergency surgery in a local hospital. Upon discharge from the hospital with the fit-to-fly after over three weeks of close monitoring and recuperation, the insured was flown home to Malaysia accompanied by an AIG non-medical escort.
